Is your bucket rusty?

Updated: May 21, 2023

Asking various people about their bucket list brought home the difference in answers between adults and children. Not the type of responses, but the belief in their responses. My 8 year old nephew could list 5 things immediately and had passion and conviction that he would without a doubt obtain these things. Most adults were ambivalent and have more of a wish list with no real conviction that they'll ever get to do the things on their bucket list. Converting things on their bucket list to an actual achievable goal seems to not be a priority or not attainable in their current circumstances. Have the responsibilities that seem to come with adulthood sucked them in with no hope of doing something out of the day to day routine? People who really believe and action their bucket list seem to be those that have been affected by tragedy, who have experienced first hand how life can change in the blink of an eye and the carpet can be ripped out from under you so easily. One thing I can promise you is that no-one on their death bed says "I should have worked more". So let me start with my nephew's list (reproduced here with his permission of course!): Madrid holiday (and with a bit of luck bump into Christiano Ronaldo...); Own as many football boots; Watch a Man U game; Walk up Ben Nevis; Own a Lamborghini (black with red trim)! What's next on my bucket list? Going to see Fleetwood Mac live during their 2018 tour (yes I know I'm far too young to be a a Fleetwood Mac fan! But hey, I'm an old soul apparently 😉) - Update - Done! And getting a new tattoo (to cover my 18 year-old rebellious phase tattoo which is now a very wilted blob previously known as a rose 🙈) - Update - Done! One of the most profound things I've done on my bucket list is walking the Camino Trail. I can't quite put my finger on why but I keep on coming back for more! Most people have places to travel and experiences on their bucket list and a few people want to explore something that they were able to do in their youth. Going back to my point earlier that we are so uninhibited as children. We seem to experience things more authentically for want of a better phrase. So let's all channel our inner child and experience more and feel to the maximum! I'm now back in Scotland after a few days in Coventry, England, both of these trips are bucket list experiences as spending time with family and friends is a priceless gift that I'm not sure when I'll get to do again.

I'll send the hairy coos your love!
